June 30, 2004

One of the guys at work is betting a dollar a day that Saddam will be dead in 10 days. That’s July 10th. ;)

Feds Warn Against Internet Explorer Use

June 30, 2004

The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, known as CERT, issued a “vulnerability note” saying that computer users should not use the Internet Explorer browser because of security vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit to launch attacks on personal computers and corporate networks.
The security lapses can cause a Web site to make the browser think, in effect, [...]

Navy Nuke Waiver Denied

June 28, 2004

I did everything right. I scored a 91 out of 99 on my ASVAB and a 60 out of 80 (needed a 50) on my NPQT. My only fault was that I was 27 and the cutoff (thus the waiver) was 25. The verdict today from the committee reviewing my request was “Waiver Request Denied.”
That’s [...]

June 25, 2004

I’ll be gone for the weekend. I’m leaving in just a little while for the Poconos for a brief three-day retreat.
See you on the other side.

SurfControl Sucks

June 25, 2004

At work, we use SurfControl to filter email and block website. I’m not the guy who configures this stuff so I don’t know the intricacies.
But I was checking out Illinigirl yesterday when my phone rang. It was Larry, one of the network guys at our location who sits across from the guy who watches the [...]

Free itunes

June 24, 2004

Yes, the title is sure to be a google traffic attracter. How many people are googling for “free itunes”? ;)
At any rate, the contest is still open. Guess the amount of spam I receive in my primary inbox and be the closest one to it and get a $20 iTunes or Amazon gift certificate. Who [...]

mytop – mysql monitoring tool

June 24, 2004

I just discovered a great tool that Jeremy wrote some time ago. If you’re familiar with top in linux then mytop will not be out of reach. Essentially, it monitors your own MySQL processes. I can see this being useful for people who have forums or high intensity database driven sites with lots of traffic [...]

Jeremy Wright to Make Appearances

June 22, 2004

I’ve been plugging Jeremy C. Wright (not to be mistaken with Jeremy P. Wright, another blogger) quite a bit lately. He’s an old friend of mine and author of the popular Ensight.org and spearhead person for the new The Bloggist, which I have also promoted and linked to.
In some recent discussion, he has agreed to [...]

Never Discount Blog Traffic

June 22, 2004

Yesterday, I linked to Jeremy Zawodny, a guy I have respected for a long time, since my blogging days at Ensight. Naturally, when Technosailor got off the ground, I began reading him again.
Yesterday I posted about Perl going through some tough times and tracked back to an entry he made on his blog.
Today, I’m viewing [...]

Today They are Called Democrats

June 22, 2004

I often go perusing through the comments I get on this site to see who has visited and what sites they run, if any. I came across this guy recently. He made a post about today’s left that is very Limbaughesque, but I still agree with it.

As the attacks on our very existence by the [...]
