Mr Kerry is imploding. His entire campaign, self-built on Vietnam, is coming down around him. The very medicine he served up as a weapon is turning on him and, as the Republicans launch their convention in New York, Kerry finds himself at a staggeringly profound deficit in the approval polls, where he was neck in neck or led not long ago.
According to a new ABCNews/Washington Post poll, Bush is dominating Kerry by a 56%-40% margin.
As the Republicans emerge from their convention later this week, expect Bush to bounce 5 to 10 percentage points in the election poll, which is currently standing in a dead heat, a statistic that also indicates a loss of support for the Democratic presidential nominee.
