Technosailor Endorses Bush for President
For those who have known me, you know that I am a Republican turned Independant. The reason for the change was because the ideals that I held closely – limited government and fiscal responsibility – have been values that are too easily and too often departed from on the political right. In too many ways, today’s Republican party appears to be the party of the left.
But today we face an election that, for all intents and purposes, is not a referendum on the current president, but a referendum on the future of our politcal landscape.
The major lightning rod issue of this election is Iraq. To that I say, what’s done is done and cannot be undone. On this issue, I agree with both major political candidates. We must stay and finish the job we started or leave a political vacuum in the middle east, a result that would be far more detrimental than staying. John Kerry has said this and George W. Bush’s stance has been no secret.
In the war on terror, both candidates agree that we must “hunt terrorists down wherever they may be” and are committed to the continuation of this war.
Both candidates agree that the United Nations is a key component to the stability of the world and differ only in the view of how much national sovereignty should be relinquished to this end. In this sailor’s opinion, the damage in the world has been done and it will be many years, surely longer than a Kerry term, before goodwill can be fully restored. And it is also this sailor’s opinion that when National Security is at stake, sacrifices must be made to protect that security. Sometimes that means damaging relationships with those we are friends. Not an ideal situation but not all situations are ideal.
On the domestic side, Kerry scares me. He cannot be nailed down on any issue because he is a candidate of popularity. He will say whatever needs to be said to be elected even if it means changing positions on an issue. He has not laid down any clear objective on his plan for our domestic future.
The top 1% of this country pays 34% of the expenses of this country. The top 5%, after that top 1%, pays 25%. Do the math and you will find that the wealthiest Americans, of whom Kerry is one and likes to villainize, pays the largest part of the bill. The truth is, they pay for services they do not utilize.
The wealthiest 6% probably do not send their children to public schools.
The wealthiest 6% probably do not utilize medicare.
The wealthiest 6% probably do not need social security.
It is egregious that the liberal left want to push their leftist social programs on the nation and then demand that the people, who do not need or use these programs pay for them.
Let’s talk about the bottom 50%? They consume the majority of government programs and contribute the least. I am among this group.
The truth is that no government should do for people that which people should do for themselves. No government should create dependance in their people because when people are dependant on government, the government controls them.
No racial group should be dependant on government because then they become slaves to the State.
And no political party should take for granted the votes of the constituency.
America is looked to every day by the world. Out of one side of their mouth, we are cursed for our power, for our resolve and for actions that may be in our national interests but not in others. Out of the other side of their mouth, they whisper to us to aid and assist? Why? Because America’s economy is the strongest in the world. Because America’s military is the strongest in the world. Because America’s influence is the greatest in the world.
That is why we need to have stability in the White House. We need a President who stand by his convictions, whatever they are. We need a President who will not change his mind based on the results of popularity polls, both at home and in the world. We need a President who will not seek to make himself into something he is not. We need a President who is loyal to his people. For example, Cheney is the VP candidate despite the requests of his own party. In the meantime, Kerry turns his back on his own Vietname swift boat unit.
It is for these reasons that we need to re-elect President George W. Bush.
This is my official endorsement.

I don’t agree (obviously), but I can see your reasons. I’ve been looking forward to this post because I expected a logical and empassioned set of reasons based on pure American national pride.
And I got it.
I’ll probably never agree with your decision, but then I may not have agreed with voting for Kerry either. I’ll continue to say “I’m glad I’m not an American” because I can’t imagine having to make some of the choices you guys are forced to make on a regular basis.

Here’s the deal. John Kerry would be a great choice for various reasons. Bush is a great choice for other reasons. Kerry is a horrible choice for some reasons, and likewise, Bush is a terrible choice for different reasons.
The job that the voters have is to separate all the smoke and mirrors and determine which one is better. I had reservations about issuing an endorsement, but I have people I know and readers of this blog ask me who I am voting for as a future military man. To me the smoke and mirrors have been sifted through. I have to vote Bush when the critical issues are on the table.

…or mine, for that matter!! ;)

Bush? Bah! Sorry to say that, but listening to your little rant about “what’s done is done and cannot be undone” made me shake my head. If the current president is starting a war based on lies and false information (to whatever extent he might have known that is hard to decide), ignoring what the UN is stating then I can’t understand how someone could just whipe it off like that…It’s just ridiculous…this war wasn’t about terrorism (what threat had Hussein posed?!) this war was all about oil and power in the middle east – not more and not less. If you’re a supporter of such policy then you should indeed go ahead and support Dubbya.
On another note:
1: I admit that I’m a little biased here as I’m still a litte pissed of that we (the german ppl) are paying for the reconstruction of iraq – although we (“old europe”) protested and didn’t want a war at all cost.
2: I watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and all prior Michael Moore movies and series
3: Why did I jump in the middle of this again?

Hey, Ingo. You raise a good point about the morally correct thing to do, but let’s be honest… there is no such thing as moral correctness in international politics. In an ideal world, governments and politicians do the right things for the right reasons, but the reality is that every government has their own reasons for doing things the way they do. To them, the actions may be moral, and to others they may not be. To the public, people will be told one thing to appease the moral fabric and another is done because the ultimate goal is power. Securing power is never a moral thing. That’s the reality and anyone who claims a moral compass is simply doing so to appease a constituency who has a moral compass that is not corrupted by the search to retain power.
Know what I’m saying?

Yup…I’m hearing you. I guess one cannot fully understand how much pressure there is (or can be) from all sides unless you’re in such a position (and chances are slim we will ever feel the kind of pressure the “leader of the free world” is feeling every day)…So I guess you’ve got a point there: in certain situation there’s nothing like THE right thing to do…(or maybe there is, but what that right thing is may differ depending on the point of view, political constraints, etc)…
That said: Everyone is free to support whoever the want to…so: I will never support GWB, on the other hand I respect your decision ;-)

Didn’t Poland pull their troops out?

Either way, aren’t you still bearing 90% of the cost and casualties (or whatever)? The last set of Iraq wars rocked because it was a “real” coalition. Dozens of countries sending hundreds of thousands of troops.
It was great to see. To me, that’s a coalition.
