Playing with MP3 Ringtones

I got sick of paying Cingular for ringtones for my Motorola V400. They never had any of the music I wanted. No U2?! For Shame!

So I set out to make my own. I made an MP3 of the song I wanted, It’s a Beautiful Day by U2. I used Goldwave, the sound editor that I’ve used for years and narrowed down the 15 second clip I wanted. I then did minor audio mods to ensure it would not sound stupid. Then I Saved As a 16600, 96kbs, Mono MP3 audio format. The filesize became barely over 200k.

The trick then became how to get the file on my phone. If you buy from a ringtone site, it gets sent to your phone. If anyone knows the technology used to do this, enlighten me. I tried emailing my phone with an attachment. The email came through but the attachment did not. I never bought a data connect cable so I had to get inventive. So I uploaded the file directly to my site and used the phone browser to go directly to the MP3. It works.

Here it is for your enjoyment or to use it on your MP3 ringtone enabled phone.

Beautiful Day
