Washington (Senators?) Comeback

Posted by: Aaron Brazell
Woodlawn, MD, USA

It’s official. As of 4pm EDT, D.C. is regaining its status as a Major League City. The largest city in America not “owning” a team is now on the way to trying its hand for a third time at major league baseball.

As an Orioles’ fan, I’ve been asked my opinion on the matter. Orioles’ owner Peter Angelos is scared for his wallet. Does that affect me? Not at all. The District team will likely be a National League team (as the Montreal Expos are now) and I can safely route for both. I could care less if Angelos meets his budget. I do care that every year for the past ten, ticket prices have increased and the quality of the team on field continues to slip. I don’t care about money. I care about good baseball.

It is possible for two highly successful teams to coexist mere miles from each other. Look at the Yankees and the Mets. Or the Cubs and the White Sox. What about the Angels and Dodgers? A’s and Giants share the Bay. Why can’t the Orioles and Expos/Senators coexist?

The fear comes from having an inferior team try to coexist with a superior team… One will inevitably be pushed out. Maybe Peter Angelos should get his hand off his wallet and work on putting a contendding team on the field. Then I guarantee there will be no fear for revenue losses.

        Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
