How to get from Baltimore to D.C. in two hours…

by Aaron Brazell on October 4, 2004

I moved from a single family home to a two bedroom apartment this weekend. Minus the headache of pulling that off, I found myself 20 minutes farther away from my already sitant workplace. Before, I lived right off I-95 and could get to my workplace in D.C. (Northwest) in an hour and ten minutes, give or take. By pushing me 20 minutes north and west of where I used to live, it was necessary to at least explore different routes to avoid the Baltimore Beltway and tons of lights en route to the beltway.

I’m not sure that I suceeded as it took me an hour and 45 minutes to get to work this morning.

Here’s what I did:
1. Rolling Road to backroads through Patapsco Park.
2. Rt 99 in Ellicott City to US-29 South.
3. Drive through Ellicott City
4. Drive through Columbia
5. Drive through Savage
6. Left on Cherry Hill Rd (if you turn right, you’d be on Randolph Rd)
7. Pass Powder Mill Rd
8. Cross over the Capital beltway.
9. Take a left on Rt 1 North
10. Jump on the Capital Beltway southbound toward Richmond (I’m tempted, but no I must stay on point!)
11. Onto Rt-295 South (Baltimore Washington Parkway).
12. Turn onto US-50 West/New York Ave
13. Left into I-395 Tunnel
14. Off at Maine Avenue
15. Follow the Tidal Basin to 17th st. Take a right.
16. Left on Constitution.
17. Right onto Virginia Ave.

And onto my work site.

I need to work on this commute. An hour and 45 minutes is too much.
