In a long awaited press release, MySQL has finally released MySQL 4.1 as it’s recommended version. Finally, there are enterprise-level features available in the popular database platform:
- Subqueries and Derived Tables
- GUI and Configuration Wizards for Windows and Linux providing an easier mechanism for optimization.
- OpenSSL encrypted transport protocols.
- Smaller memory footprint.
- New GIS spatial field type for geographic information.
- Full text search.
Let’s see how quickly server admins upgrade. These are significant improvements. Onward and upward to MySQL 5.0!
