MySQL 4.1 Production Ready

In a long awaited press release, MySQL has finally released MySQL 4.1 as it’s recommended version. Finally, there are enterprise-level features available in the popular database platform:

  • Subqueries and Derived Tables
  • GUI and Configuration Wizards for Windows and Linux providing an easier mechanism for optimization.
  • OpenSSL encrypted transport protocols.
  • Smaller memory footprint.
  • New GIS spatial field type for geographic information.
  • Full text search.

Let’s see how quickly server admins upgrade. These are significant improvements. Onward and upward to MySQL 5.0!
