FireBillick.com: What a Waste of Time
Why someone would go to the bother of trying to have Brian Billick, head coach of the Ravens, fired is beyond me. This site is obviously amateur and he makes no valid point. He makes claims that:
- Super Bowl XXXV was Marvin Lewis’ Super Bowl, not Brian Billick. Response: Marvin Lewis did wonders for the Ravens defense and is doing wonders now as the head coach of the Cincinatti Bengals. But without a head coach to offer vision and direction for his coaches, purpose and motivation for his players, then what good is a team. A team is only as good as their head coach.
- Trent Dilfer, during the Super Bowl year, was undefeated. Response: Trent Dilfer lost his first game as a starter in week 9 of the 2000 series. More’s the pity. It was a loss to the Steelers 9-6.
- Billick is arrogant. Response: So what? It inspires confidence in his team, in his teams fans and respect by other coaches.
- Offensive performance over the years is poor. Response: yes, but the defense has been strong. They balance each other out. The Colts defense sucked this year but nobody’s calling for Tony Dungee’s firing. In 2002, under Bill Bellichek, the Patriots were 22nd in the league in offensive yards and 17th in the league in points allowed on defense. They finished 9-7.
And the absurd list goes on. I don’t even feel like debating the guy.
The reality is, is that as the Raven’s Head Coach (see this site for complete breakdown of stats), the Ravens have had 1 losing season, 3 playoff seasons, 1 Superbowl win and one of the most resilient defenses in the league. In addition, their depth chart is astronomical. Who ever heard of Adalius Thomas until he had to fill in? They have a winning or tied record in all time matchups with 21 teams. And the Ravens drafting prowess is unmatched. Since 1999, the Ravens have drafted in later rounds: Edwin Mulitalo (1999, 4th round), Adalius Thomas (2000, 6th round), Casey Rabach (2001,3rd Round), Terry Jones (2002,5th Round), and Chester Taylor (2002, 6th Round) . That’s not to mention first and second round picks like Jamal Lewis, Ed Reed, Chris McAlister and Todd Heap. Of course Billick had a strong bit of input on these guys! And why shouldn’t he? Bill Parcells has that kind of control in Dallas. Marty Schottenheimer has it in San Diego. Steve Mariucci in Detroit. Bill Bellichik in New England. Tony Dungee in Indy. Need I go on?
The funny thing is, when I heard him on Steve’s show, it was readily apparent that the only reason why this guy built this site was for some quick “fun in the sun”. Steve gave him his moment. I give him mine. Do what you do, kid. Get over yourself, though. You really don’t understand football all that much. Your arguments make that plain.

Ah, a sports post. :) I agree that it’s midguided to call for Billick’s head. He’s an above-average coach, to say the least. He needs more talent on offense, bottom line. Get some more wide receivers and they’ll be in better shape.

Do me a favor and at least make the sites look decent, ok? And your FireMoss.com may end up becoming the thing that causes a HireMoss.com here in Balty.

You guys can have Moss. Seriously, if it were up to me he would be gone. :)
I also secretly aspire to open up a FireVikingsHirePanthersorTampaBay.com site.

What if we don’t want Moss? Maybe a DontHireMoss.com site might be in order?
