The Wordpress devs provide a bug tracking utility to allow users, particular of nightly build and beta software to report issues that may arise from the use of these pre-gold versions.
I have been using nightly builds for quite some time but usually don’t report issues. Frankly, I don’t normally encounter, and that, I feel, speaks to the solidness of their product.
But I reported an issue last week about the inability to display the last x number of days of posts. If you go to your Wordpress control panel, view the Options > Reading page, you have the ability to display blank number of posts or blank number of days worth of posts on your front page. I had it set to display the past 14 days of posts and after setting this option, I noticed it would take 15-20 seconds for the front page to load. I thought it was the server and as the sysadmin, I was poking fruitlessly all over, chasing down processes etc. to no avail.
Finally, I, by some fluke, saw that the very first entry on the page (at the bottom) was the very first entry I ever made on this blog and it was back on May 19, 2004. Instantly I realized the problem and decided to change some WP options and switched from the past 14 days to the last 50 posts. Refresh. That option worked as prescribed. So thinking that the database entry had simply gotten changed, I switched the option back to days. Refresh. Last entry on the page was the first entry I ever wrote. Hmmmm. So I tried changing the number of days to show. Refresh. Same thing. So I went back to the posts method. Refresh. Quickly the correct number of entries popped back up with virtually no lag time.
So I submitted a bug request to Matt and the devs. You can view the status here.

Anything but Blogger. I hate the fact you have to have a blogger account or leave comments anonymously. MT3 I hear is nice but I am quite satisfied and comfortable with WP.

Funny. I thought tonight that I would see how well a MoveableType “upgrade” would work. It was purely a curiosity as I have no intention of moving away from Wordpress. I installed the thing on my development box here, put a copy of the database up, installed ActivePerl (Damn Windows), installed the libraries. Then I looked at the requirements. Since I currently have 5 writers, there was no way that the free version of MT would work for me (3 blogs, 1 author). Oh well.
I was also curious about PMachine and noticed it has been discontinued in favor of ExpressEngine. Plus you have to pay for it.
Golfy, I definitely recommend Wordpress. Why pay for something you don’t need?

Granted, it’s not free if you want multiple blogs and authors, but it’s not like MT can’t handle your setup, you just don’t want to pay it. ;) I have no problem paying for a solid, quality product at a reasonable price, but everyone is different. I realize it doesn’t make sense to most to pay for something when you can get it free, but MT suits me best and it was most familiar to the my designer.

Wordpress is just as solid as MT and it’s free. It also costs alot less in overhead time and effort to setup. Hoorah for a 3 minute install, anyone?

Hey Aaron, I’m running Wordpress and don’t have your problem! I’m currently set to show last 14 days, and although it’s only showing the last 13 days (!!??!!) it’s certainly not showing all posts or the very first one or whatnot.
