Wordpress Theme Utica Avenue Released

I’ve decided to release a new theme for general consumption today. It is called Utica Avenue, named after the Brooklyn, New York subway station. End of the 4 line, for those who would like to know. :)

I’ve put alot of effort into this theme and hopefully it will meet expected standards. I have not tested it in <ie 6, Opera, Safari or IE for Mac (much less any Linux browsers.

Issues at hand that I am not thrilled with:

Sidebar is called before the Loop which means all the junk in the sidebar is displayed in the source BEFORE the content – not ideal for screen readers but until I find a better solution, it’ll have to do.

You can see it in action by clicking on the Utica Avenu link in the sidebar.

This theme is intended for Wordpress 1.5.

What about whippin’ up (’cause that’s what you make it sound like, that writing these programs is a snap) a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ for those of us with MT (aka have a Monstrous Time trying to blog!).

P.S. Now that you’ve changed places of employment, do you work in Bal’more, hon? Or do you still commute to that wondrous place 45 min. south from here but which feels like it’s a world away.

Oh, and I’ve even taken it upon myself to do half the work of writing said MT program for you. Yes, that’s right, I came up with the name for it.

Make like John Waters and be loyal to Bawl’more in your program name. So instead of calling it Utica Avenue or Times Square or something New Yawkish, utilize this fab lil’ city of ours: So how’s about calling it: Hampden, hon! (See? Alliteration and everything.) Or: The underutelized Baltimore subway system is a huge bust for the city budget!

Or… Welcome to Bawl’more, where the previous two police commissioners taught the criminals around here a thing or two!

What do you MEAN it’s a little too verbose for a computer program or plug-in name or whatever it is that you techies call these things?!? ;-)

I like the Utica theme a lot. I gotta say though, that you were really onto something with Cartography. There’s an atmosphere about that theme (especially the header) that’s excellent.

Hey Aaron, could you show me your sidebar script? I’m brand new to WP and I’m looking for an exhaustive link list like yours for my sidebar but I haven’t seen anything like it around yet. I’d appreciate if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Danger, it’s a labor of love. I have built in WP functions, custom made functions and other plugins created by other WP coders that I have used in a different way. I sent you an email.

Thanks Aaron, I appreciate the help and plan to introduce some of that labor into my own site. Thanks for the great design help too, I made my theme off of a modified GreenTrack after seeing your example.
