Internet Explorer Loses Market Share

by Aaron Brazell on May 17, 2005 · 15 comments

Business Week is reporting something that saavy internet types have realized for at least the past year. Internet Explorer is losing Market Share. They have slipped to under 90% in the latest figures. That numer is astronomical still, but considering the 6% decline from 95% during June of last year, the impact of browsers such as Firefox and Opera is being noticed. In fact, in a related Slashdot story, Microsoft has noticed and is implementing one of the most popular features not included in IE — Internet Explorer 7 will have tabbed browsing.

I’d be happier if IE5 marketshare was nonexistant (on both the Mac and Windows side). :)

Now they just need remove ActiveX support so the masses of non-savvy users don’t get inundated with spyware like they are now. That’s why alternative browsers are so secure in part — they don’t support ActiveX and therefore spyware can’t be easily installed.
