Memorial Day

Posted by: Michael

Memorial Day

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led.
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

By Moina Michael

What does it mean to Americans today? In my youth the honor of our country was beyond reproach. My Grandparents, parents and whole neighborhood honored the brave men and women of the United States military. Sons and daughters were proud to enlist to defend our great country, and our way of life. On Memorial Day and every American holiday you would see a flag hanging proudly from every home. Not today As I drive through the neighborhoods there are very few flags. What is the problem? What has changed the attitude of the American people? Why does it take a national catastrophe to bring us together? On the day of 9/11 and the days that followed Americans were one. You saw flags on every home and vehicle. People were proud of our country and we were ready to fight for America and what it stands for. Today our country seems to be infected with malaises of partisan politics and individuals who relish the idea of an American failure. There are those who would do harm to fighting men and women just for political reasons and a chance to hurt the President. Why else do we read in the newspapers and hear on the MSM day after day the constant, almost giddy expressions of the bad our military has done and continues to do? Where are the stories of all the good they do? The MSM will publish any story, no matter the consequences, as was seen with the Newsweek article concerning the desecration of the Koran. How many times do we need to hear about the Abu Graib incident? Memorial Day is to honor those who have died serving our country and those who are serving our country today. Without the worlds greatest military forces those who would denigrate our military would not have the freedom to do so.

I hope there are still those in this country who will look at one of our Soldier, Marine, Sailor and Airmen and say Thank you for what you do Everyone should stop and think for a moment of all the sacrifices that have been made over the years so that you have this day to spend at the beach, picnic and especially the 3-day weekend

Happy Memorial Day everyone

Thanks to Aaron for allowing me the chance to spout

    Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
