Vacation is Such a Relief

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

I’m back in the saddle again. Returned yesterday evening from a great three days in the Virginia Beach area. The pinnacle of the weekend was the first night when my brother and I went to the Dave Matthews Concert. As a fan, I’m ashamed to say that it was the first DMB concert I had gone to. I was only slightly disappointed by the number of songs they played from the new album, Stand Up. It’s an okay CD but I really prefer the classic DMB sound more than the made-for-radio songs that are on the new CD. So, the band did not jam as much as I would have liked but it was still a great CD. Both my brother and I were thrilled that they chose to play our favorite songs, #41 (which is my brother’s all time favorite) and Seek Up which is mine and carries deep personal meaning and holds memories for me. The only thing that pissed me off is I had drank so much beer that I had to … ahem … step away near the end of the song. I thought the song was over and apparently it wasn’t and I missed a kick-ass piano solo from Butch Taylor. Oh well.

Actually, here’s the setlist thanks to NAncies.org:

Opening Band: Blue Merle
American Baby
One Sweet World
The Stone
Hello Again
Dream Girl
Seek Up
Rhyme & Reason
Crash
#41
Hunger For The Great Light
Steady As We Go
Stand Up
You Might Die Trying
Louisiana Bayou
What You Are
Encore:
Stolen Away On 55th & 3rd
Too Much

I needed some time away from work and away from my everyday life. I feel refreshed now and looking forward to going at life again for a bit.

Oh and here’s a few low quality snapshots from my phone of the concert. Enjoy!

I'm surprised with the DMB concert. They've been trading a lot on their first couple albums...The bulk of their "new" albums are just live recordings of Crash, et al. Maybe they're trying to break away from that mold.

if im not mistaken, Dave Matthews was a big supporter of Kerry. Looks like youre giving your measly hard earned republican tax break to an 'unpatriotic' democrat, ha ha.
