Identifying the Key Issue for 2008

It’s where the Republicans are weak. True blue conservatives have known it. Unfortunately, the political machine in Washington seems to want to fall in cadence with the Prez. It will be their downfall.

Immigration is a wildly explosive security problem and it looks like the Democrats have figured that out and are willing to exploit that weakness. I’ll play the game. Who knows, if they play their cards right, they might even win this conservative vote in 2008.

John McCain and Lindsey Graham may be the only Republicans in Washington not in line with the Prez.

I agree this is an area where many Conservatives differ with the Prez and there are some Democrats who have started making anti-immigration statements, including the Hildabeaste, but as we all know they speak out of both sides of their mouths… Richardson of New Mexico may be sincere, but we’ll see… The Republicans are late to jump onto this issue, but there’s over two years before the election and you can be sure they won’t let this issue be taken over by the Dems… Hillary has already started her Hispanic campaign by proposing education for all immigrants… Of course paid for with our tax dollars… They will shoot themselves in the foot, they always do - just wait and see…

Michelle Malkin drives me crazy and I refuse to read her. The same with Ann Coulter. Neither of them can see the forest through the trees. Perhaps if they toned down their rhetoric, I could deal with them. Who knows? They may have valid points. But with the venomous partisanship, their points never make it to my ears or eyes.

You should read them, because they usually backup there comments with links to other sites… I can’t say much for Coulter, but I think Malkin is usually quite fair… I don’t agree with the “venomous partisanship” for her either, because she is often in disagreement with Bush and the Republicans… Read her again for the first time…

By the way, who’s veiws do make it to your ears?

Most of the folks on my blogroll I read on a daily basis. I don’t agree with everyone, but I take the meat and spit out the bones.

I’m fairly libertarian-minded, but I’d vote for the right Democrat, depending on who was running. In fact, I’ve concocted scenarios in which I would vote for a Republican, a Democrat, or a Libertarian. It all depends on if economic freedom or personal liberties are what I feel are most under attack at the time and which candidate will do the most to combat those violations. I will NOT vote for Clinton, I will NOT vote for McCain. Immigration will be one of my issues, but so will be government spending control. I like Bush’s attitude on taxes, but it has to go hand and hand with spending restraint. Tax less, spend less, and people will prosper. If the Democrats can manage to put someone up who isn’t a die-hard Socialist, is in favor of supporting our illegal-immigration laws, and isn’t going to tax-and-spend… I’d definitely consider voting for them.

Whoa… it took the “rn” in government and converted them to “backslash”r”backslash”n (a carriage return). Funky.

Having just recently moved from a border town in arizona (moved away a year ago) it is hard not to agree with what John McCain presented before the Senate Committee on Judiciary.

One day we were hiking up a peak in Sierra Vista, AZ and came across a group of illegals (as they are often referred to) all rounded up. Men and women of all ages; grandparents and children; all sitting together surrounded by border patrol agents. This was hard to see; it definitely tugged at my heart. You knew all these people wanted was a better life for themselves and their family and who am I to want to deny them this?

But, this being said, as we continued our hike, we countinued to see signs of immigrants, trash, empty water bottles, etc. Then we saw people camping, with guns. Apprently you don’t camp in the Huachuca Mountains without a gun because not everyone is as harmless as the group that we came across earlier in the hike.

While, my heart may tell me one thing at times, my head tells me the complete opposite. We really need to focus on securing the border with a larger presence and more control. We need to do what we need to do to protect our country and the people that live here.

I agree wholeheartedly with Sara… And for Aaron’s information so does Michelle Malkin… We are being overrun by illegals and the current admistration is not doing what is needed to stop the scourge from coming across our border. I can feel simpathy for the poor immigrants, but they are not what I worry about… There are too many others who carry weapons and move into our cities with criminal motives on their minds, such as Montgomery County, Maryland, which by the way is heavily Democratic… We have a major immigration problem and no one is doing what is needed. The Republicans seem to be sitting on their heels and the Democrats keep making false noise… I do feel it will be a Conservative that will make the charge and do what is necessary, not the Democrats… They never have… As slow as Bush has been on this issue I feel he is starting to see the light, at least I am hopeful… There are others around him who see things differently and are beginning to influence him… He has to act if he is to protect his leagacy, which is always important to Presidents…

Mark, that’s probably due to my own hack. I’m running 1.6 and it would add rn (literally) on comments where linebreaks were. I concocted a dirty fix using str_replace().

I posted this entry mostly because, although I’m sure there will be alot of other major issues on the agenda for 2008, the big issue for me will be immigration and the shambles that Bush has turned it into. I’ve made no secret of my disdain for Bush administration policies. The border is not only open but immigrants are encouraged to cross it illegally… or shall I say “legally” with the “Guest Worker Program”.

Who pays for these guest workers? Me. You. Not them. Who keeps track of what they do in our borders? Come on…not the INS!

I’m ready to vote for a Democrat who has his head screwed on straight regarding immigration. I don’t think I could bring myself to vote for Hillary, but she would be the exception. I’ve always liked Bill Richardson and he makes no bones about aspiring to national office.

John McCain is a little flakey on immigration but I think his ideas are stronger than Bush’s and I think he’d be a safe bet on national security issues as well.

I’m ready for 2008. It can”t get here quick enough. And I’m a conservative!
