I posted this entry mostly because, although I'm sure there will be alot of other major issues on the agenda for 2008, the big issue for me will be immigration and the shambles that Bush has turned it into. I've made no secret of my disdain for Bush administration policies. The border is not only open but immigrants are encouraged to cross it illegally... or shall I say "legally" with the "Guest Worker Program".

Who pays for these guest workers? Me. You. Not them. Who keeps track of what they do in our borders? Come on...not the INS!

I'm ready to vote for a Democrat who has his head screwed on straight regarding immigration. I don't think I could bring myself to vote for Hillary, but she would be the exception. I've always liked Bill Richardson and he makes no bones about aspiring to national office.

John McCain is a little flakey on immigration but I think his ideas are stronger than Bush's and I think he'd be a safe bet on national security issues as well.

I'm ready for 2008. It can''t get here quick enough. And I'm a conservative!

I agree wholeheartedly with Sara... And for Aaron's information so does Michelle Malkin... We are being overrun by illegals and the current admistration is not doing what is needed to stop the scourge from coming across our border. I can feel simpathy for the poor immigrants, but they are not what I worry about... There are too many others who carry weapons and move into our cities with criminal motives on their minds, such as Montgomery County, Maryland, which by the way is heavily Democratic... We have a major immigration problem and no one is doing what is needed. The Republicans seem to be sitting on their heels and the Democrats keep making false noise... I do feel it will be a Conservative that will make the charge and do what is necessary, not the Democrats... They never have... As slow as Bush has been on this issue I feel he is starting to see the light, at least I am hopeful... There are others around him who see things differently and are beginning to influence him... He has to act if he is to protect his leagacy, which is always important to Presidents...

Having just recently moved from a border town in arizona (moved away a year ago) it is hard not to agree with what John McCain presented before the Senate Committee on Judiciary.

One day we were hiking up a peak in Sierra Vista, AZ and came across a group of illegals (as they are often referred to) all rounded up. Men and women of all ages; grandparents and children; all sitting together surrounded by border patrol agents. This was hard to see; it definitely tugged at my heart. You knew all these people wanted was a better life for themselves and their family and who am I to want to deny them this?

But, this being said, as we continued our hike, we countinued to see signs of immigrants, trash, empty water bottles, etc. Then we saw people camping, with guns. Apprently you don't camp in the Huachuca Mountains without a gun because not everyone is as harmless as the group that we came across earlier in the hike.

While, my heart may tell me one thing at times, my head tells me the complete opposite. We really need to focus on securing the border with a larger presence and more control. We need to do what we need to do to protect our country and the people that live here.
