Katrina

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

Of course, words cannot express the sympathy for the devastation in the South Central U.S. right now. I can’t even imagin entire Parrishses (Louisiana for Counties) without water, electricity or real food. I cannot fathom the depth of destruction, despite seeing non-stop coverage on television.

The heroes of the day are the law enforcement personnel who are tryig valiantly to keep order in the face of heartbreaking situations. Who wants to shove a shotgun in the face of a person who is trying to get some food for his family… not to justify looting, but desperate times call for desperate measures and I wouldn’t want to be the cop that is asked to prevent someone from taking some food…

Also the heroes of the day are the thousands of utility workers who are working to restore power. That’s going to be a huge project. Many long hours toiling away and fatigue setting in.

Fatigue, water and electricity are a bad combo. These guys are truly putting their lives at risk.

Kudos.

      Hey Aaron,

I also think the heros of this disaster are the average "Joe Citizen" who have stepped up and offered their vehicles, their precious supplies, and their time to help their neighbors to safety, driving them to higher and drier ground, and not busy looting the remnants of stores in unsecured areas like some of the "citizens" are doing.

You're in my prayers Aaron, take it easy bud :)

Well said, Aaron. Hope all is well out there. Like you said, I cannot fathom what the people are going through in Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama. Watching CNN and Fox News, the experience I have had watching the news has lead me to moments of hope, angst, sorrow & benvolence.

One thing left unsaid due to this tragedy, in light of the war, the rise in gas prices and other little things we nitpick about, is to appreciate life and everyday you wake up.

If the readers can, donate to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army or any organizations in need and that can supply help to the victims of Katrina.

Off to see the O's up at Fenway this weekend.

One thing many forget is the animals. Dogs were tied up and cats left in the houses. There are very few pictures, but the ones you see are heartbreaking - the guy pulling his dog out of a doghouse that was flooded got me the most. Why didn't he bring the dog inside. I plan on giving to the Humane Society and doing what I can to help the animal rescue effort.

        Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
