Send in the Troops!

After Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf coast earlier this week, I was in shock when martial law was declared. I don’t rememeber martial law ever being declared in the United States, but I know it has happened a few times.

At first I was opposed. Never since the civil war has the American military been used against the American people. And that wasn’t really what was happening. It was to preserve order.

Watching the insane looting (and that doesn’t begin to describe it), it’s time for the military to be deployed in a military posture, using military (not law enforcement) tactics. Secure the city. Crush the opposition. It’s the only way

I didn’t like the idea at first, until I took a look at the Constitution to find out what powers it gives the government in times like this. I didn’t have to look very far… in fact, I only had to look to the Preamble:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

  • Establish Justice
  • Insure Domestic Tranquility
  • Provide for the Common Defense

That is the purpose of the government. Get your asses in there and do it! Particularly, the common defense.

OMG, please watch what you say because the bleeding liberal on another blog is going to be very upset. She responded to the call for arms in New Orleans as horrible. We should be looking for survivors!!! The looters are just trying to survive and insurance is going to cover what they lost. And please don’t shoot the people with guns - they are just scared.

Finally, they are going after the looters. It’s sad that the rescuers have to stop looking for survivors to stop people who are coming from dry land and homes to loot the flooded businesses and homes. Good thing they’ll have a TV when the power comes back on.

The government is in a tight spot. I just hope that the liberals stop complaining about Bush and let the government do it’s job.

The government has had a horrible response time for this. It’s not like Katrina was a surprise. In Florida, they always have pallets of drinking water and food ready for those taking shelter. In Louisiana, there was no such provision. It was sort of like, “Oops we forgot”.

The fact that it has taken 5 days to deploy the National Guard to the level they are at now and the deployment is not yet complete also says something. They could have easily been prepositioned to come in after the storm and preserve order. But they weren’t.

Nobody expected the levy to break. Well, that’s not true. Someone had a prophetic eye for the future. But virtually no-one expected the disaster level it has become.

However, even without the flooding, there was a hurricane coming in. And it was big. And it was expected to do alot of damage. And… And… And…

When I say deploy the troops, I don’t want them to go in with guns a’blazin. But anarchy can’t be tolerated. At least in my eyes.
