Mobile, Alabama: Day 11

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

We were moved to Mobile, Alabama yesterday. Rather, we were moved to Bayou La Batre. The hotel we are staying with is a step down from a Motel 6. Some of the guys have mold in their bathrooms. The rooms stink of stale cigarettes. Some of the sheets have holes in them. It’s really unreal. But it’s shelter and a bed, I guess. This is not a luxury trip.

The one great thing is the Lighthouse Inn, a local seafood restaurant that looks like a double wide. I had Grouper fillet (that’s fish for those who don’t know!). I tell you what, though…. outsiders did not appear to be welcomed with open arms, but they were pleasant with us. The reality is, between FEMA and evacuees, most of the towns down here have had their share of people from outside.

There are some videos and pictures taken during the storm “from nearby”. I have uploaded one for your viewing pleasure (or horror)…

Hey, not everybody in Alabama is that way, I live in Madison (it’s near Huntsville). You’ll learn to like it…

    Tim– Link works!!!

Kimmy– Yeah I love Alabama. I just don’t like Bayou Labatre. I am actually talking to someone in my company about a promotion opportunity in Huntsville, so I have no ill will toward Alabama. I love this place… just not Bayou Labatre. :)

Yep, it a bit of a rat trap. I take it that you are staying at the one across from the “mall” ? LOL

They should move you to one of the hotels off of interstate 10, Best Western& Holiday Inn to name a few. Just about 15 or 20 miles away from BLB. And all you have to do is hop on I 10 to MS.

The Bayou is beautifull, just not looking it’s best right at the moment. ( the hotel was never that nice =) ) some lovely waterfront view. Although most are to much water front now.

Thanks for offering to help with the email form. I got it sorted out. Took a while as I just just started with php =)

I don’t know about a mall. :p We’re across from the “Package Stroe”. BLB Inn & Suites… godness gracious.

We got holed up here because there isn’t any vacancies with a block of rooms for 90 miles around Pascagoula.
