My Pipe Is Bigger Than Yours

Anyone else notice the internet slowdown last week? Well it wasn’t just a fluke. Cogent and Level3, two of the biggest network connections, a.k.a. backbones, in the world have decide to lock horns and bicker over who;s bigger than the other.

As this CNET article explains, when companies of this size get together to join their networks (something that keeps the internet online) money rarely changes hands. The companies are of the same size. Well, now Level 3 has decided that they are bigger than Cogent and want Cogent to pay them. Cogent is arguing and trying to lure Level3’s customer base away.

Gentlemen, gentlemen…. how many times do I have to tell you. It’s not size that matters. It’s the motion of the ocean!
