Blocked Comments

I have been using a plugin called DNS-Anti-Spam on this blog. The concept is that the IP address of a commenter is compared against a known list of blacklisted IPs, many of which have come through abuse@ ISP reports.

I thought this was working pretty good until I started hearing some grumblings from some folks that they could not comment because their IPs were blocked. I have no idea how many people this has affected for a very long time, but I have disabled that plugin.

Feel free to post comments now.

Are you using WordPress? (I’m too lazy to work it out for myself!)

If so Spam Karma works pretty good.

Well, I’ve been blocked for the first time today…so I guess now I won’t be anymore, yippi!

On another note: I just added another gun to my antispam arsenal (on top of Kitten’s Spaminator): Bad Behaviour

Success so far: double thumbs up…near 0 spam to moderate anymore and no complaints so far – after all other blogs (i.e. Jeremy over at ensight) are using it too and if there were any major problems someone would have heard complaints and made a post about it…

Yes, I am using WordPress, Andy. I installed Spam Karma 2 yesterday thanks to a saavy reader’s recommendation. I’ve been watching the stats in the stats panel it provides and it is amazingly good.

Ingo– I used Bad Behavior, but it does some funky things with WordPress 1.6 so I stopped.

I like this ditty from the logs:

    Retro-spanked 2 comments.

I wonder if the comments liked being retro-spanked? :-)
