Office 12 Preview

I was in Pascagoula when this was released and I’m finding it now. There are some early feature previews and screenshots for the next generation of Microsoft Office available here. I wish I had some contacts at Microsoft to talk to about the UI.

I did talk to some friends who brought up the theory that it may be able to be tweaked to a more classic view. Possibly.

The reality is, though, that you may tweak the UI to appear more like older versions of Office, the fundamental premise behind the usability factor is undergoing a major overhaul. No more menus. Now we have tabs. No more dialog boxes. Now we have galleries. I’m all for the change but I’m not the average user. I can here the complaints now.

No old UI. You could always ask me, since I was involved in pre-beta work :) I’d be happy to share some of the info behind the decision in NYC :)

Yes but you are under an NDA and not an employee, so I figure you aren’t probably a great source except for off-the-record stuff. But well definitely talk about it. :)
