Friday Poll: November 11, 2005

The polling has been very successful here at Technosailor. Last week’s question was based on the racial comments made by Maryland elected black officials about fellow African-American and Republican Senate candidate, Michael Steele.

The official question was “Do you think black Democrats in Maryland should be forced to resign over comments made about the validity of race-based attacks on fellow black man and Republican Senate candidate Michael Steele?”

According to the poll results, 68% say they should resign because race has no place in a campaign; 5% say maybe not resign but definitely not be re-elected; 5% of the voters said that to eb black, you must subscribe to Democratic ideals and that Steele opened himself to attack; 9% question the integrity of the individuals and 5% think they should not resign.

This week’s poll question comes from a Bill O’Reilly poll that I found interesting as we approach the next set of elections.

What is Most Important to You?

  1. Oil Prices
  2. Fighting Terrorism
  3. Controlling Illegal Immigration

Vote in the poll in the sidebar. Make your voice heard.

Wow, just wow. I’m surprised I am the first to say terrorism. Have we forgotten 9/11 so quickly? Sorry, but I fail to see how paying for more at the pump is more important than keeping vicious murderers out of our country. This has nothing to do with whether you support the Iraq war or this administration, it’s a general topic, and protecting the American way of life has to be No. 1.

That is why I picked “Controlling Illegal Immigration”. That is the number 1 way to protect the American way of life, and it serves to combat terrorism at the same time…

Somehow I don’t think Mexican immigrants trying to get a minimum wage job are as much of a threat as extremists flying commercial airplanes into skyscrapers in Manhattan. I don’t condone illegal immigration, but I don’t think most of them are terrorists.

Now, now, Marc. That’s awfully close to a racial line there. No one said anything about Mexicans getting jobs. Illegal immigration was the word of choice and that encompasses many more than Mexicans trying to get work.

For instance, if you don’t want to believe there’s a link between terrorism and illegal immigration, do a quick Google search for MS-13 and start reading. :-)

In fact, I might add, as much as I disagree with Bush’s guest worker program, at least the workers wouldn’t be illegal anymore. It’s not the immigration that is the problem. It’s the illegal variety that bugs me.

Racial? Not my intention. Look what country is bordering on the south, that’s all I was referring to. Not a derogatory slam on them.

Yeah Marc, I know you’re not racist. You of all people are not racist. That said, your comment could be misconstrued that way. When I speak of illegal immigration, I do mean the steady flow of immigrants from Mexico, but there are also quite a few illegals coming from Canada and other countries as well. Not to mention, Canada and Mexico are often used as staging points for Al Qaeda, etc.

Uh MS-13 isn’t terrorism, it’s gang activity just like you would have seen in South Central LA ten years ago. Unless everything we don’t like is now labelled “terrorism” and I missed the talking points memo…

Vinnie, MS-13 was being used by Al Qaeda to get into the US. That was a big thing a year or two ago.
