Friday Poll: Which Map Program Do You Use?

With another week past, we come to Friday where I release another poll.

This past week’s poll asked which was most important to you: oil prices, fighting terrorism or illegal immigration. After a snafu that required a move to a completely different platform and polling system, there was a hiccup in polling and the number had to be reset. More’s the pity.

Either way, the results are in. 50% of readers find oil prices to be of primary concern. 32% were more concerned with fighting terrorism. 18% are concerned with fighting immigration.

The new poll is more geeky. Using the three new map applications from the big 3 in Search technology, which do you prefer to use? “Google Maps”:http://maps.google.com, “Microsoft’s Virtual Earth”:http://virtualearth.msn.com/ or “Yahoo’s new Maps (Beta)”:http://maps.yahoo.com/beta/i.

Gas prices were seriously the top concern? Unless you’re in the shipping industry it shouldn’t be THAT much of an issue. I think the difference between peak gas prices back in September and now was a whopping $10 per week to me, and I drive 350+ miles every week.

Oil prices are not just pump prices. Oil prices affect jobs, commuting, airline prices, FedEx-style delivery surcharges, as well as driving other market prices.

I hope gas prices go up to $100/gallon, it would give us all exactly what we deserve.

Now if you want to talk mapping software I can wax poetically on the subject at length. Google and Earth are moderately amusing at best, Yahoo is a joke. All those maps are great if you, let’s say, want to go from downtown Baltimore to downtown New York, but if you want to go from whositville to dunkirk and need a burrito and a motel you better spend some cheese. I use Map Pointe and it still isn’t perfect.
