Xbox 360 and the Future of the video game industry
With the release of the Xbox360, a new era in gaming has arrived, or has it?
Sure, there are many more pixels to make things prettier and more life like, but what are people really getting?
It seems that Microsoft is betting the entire game on the online gaming world. With arcade games online and mutliplayer as the way to go, the only way to keep people interested is to keep them connected.
The really huge thing that Microsoft is working toward is owning the living room. This is where the Xbox360 with its media extender capability really adds value.
As the new Windows Media Center is released in late 2006 with Vista, the adoption of cablecard to create a central media server and the Xbox360 is one way to get the content into other parts of the home. Why buy a cable box for your kids room, when they can use Media Center to record their shows and use their Xbox360 to watch them.
I personally am waiting until the Playstation 3 comes out. Should be plenty of games out and a price war to compete with Sony’s new toy.
I hope all of you who camped out in tent cities to get your new machines have a fun weekend in a pixelated, red bull, cheezy puff haze playing Call of Duty for 72 hours straight.
