What NOT to do when you set out to travel this Holiday

I love browsing the The Drudge Report every morning. That happens to be a ritual of mine every day (among other websites and blogs) and I thought this article a very interesting read.

I haven’t used an airplane since 9/11 and quite frankly with all the security precautions, hassles, and headaches I’ve read and heard about, who wants to bother? As a current full time student at a local community college here in Princeton, MN I’ve not had the luxury of travelling, so why bother right? Any way, looking at an article linked by Drudge, I couldn’t help but laugh, and blog about it. (HeH)
“A drunken holidaymaker has been dumped on a desert island after launching a foul-mouthed tirade at the crew of a passenger jet.”

I’m guessing that they couldn’t just dump him out one of the doors?

The unnamed passenger’s difficulties began on Tuesday evening at 35,000 ft when he began abusing the cabin crew of flight ZB558 from Manchester. He refused to calm down and then turned his attention to the other 210 passengers.”

That’s certainly not the way to vent your anger…..at 210 other people….

“Eventually the pilot decided that he posed a risk to safety and had to be removed.
Rather than continue for a further 45 minutes to Tenerife he diverted his Airbus A321 to Porto Santo. Within moments of the plane touching down the passenger was escorted to the terminal. Last night he remained a castaway on the Portuguese-controlled island. His New Year home is a mere 10 miles long by three miles wide with a population of 4,000. There is little entertainment apart from walking on the sand dunes.”

Suddenly, my cartoon bubble shows “Gilligan” on an island, patching up the broken S.S. Minnow with some rubber/glue compound that is allergic to water.

“Despite enduring a four-hour delay, other passengers were “fully supportive” of the decision to dump the man.

Last night it was unclear either how or when he would return to Britain.

“He certainly won’t be flying back with us,” said Miss Robertson.”

Rule #1: What ever you do, please DON’T piss off the flight crew when you drink. You might just get dropped off at your own desert island.

Having a generous supply of skepticism and pessimism, I have to wonder how an American Airline company would fare had this been done by a pilot flying NorthWest, or Delta Airlines. I know that the liberals would have a field day spinning this negatively. Although, it is a lot better to dump them off on an island than having a Federal Air Marshall open fire wouldn’t you say?
Have a SAFE and Happy New Year’s celebration! If you are going to drink, do it responsibly, and get a sober driver, or a taxi! I don’t want to have to blog for anyone’s bail money!

It’s been my experience that abusing the flight crew at 35,000 feet is generally not the smartest idea. :-)

Especially when you have 210 passengers all looking to find a roll of duct tape and oblige the flight crew :)

Just another example of what happens when you mix alcohol and stupidity. And I think that any American pilot that tried that stunt would be summarily fired and then broiled alive in the press.

Though, as you said, better to be set down on a desert island than be jettisoned at 35,000 feet.

    A year-end NKOTB parade…

It’s a broken record in blogsylvania, but I’ll say it anyway–December got busy and I got sidetracked and didn’t post everything I meant to. Specifically, the NKOTB’s got severly neglected in the holiday shuffle. Making up for lost time, here’s……
