b5media: Taking a Hit
A few of you have emailed me commenting on my distantness lately. Let me explain. I’ve been working on getting a server prepped for b5media. As they continue to grow with leaps and bounds, they were quickly outgrowing their one server.
The point was underscored in the past 72 hours as a lucky blogger got lots of traffic to her blog, but to the detriment of everyone else on the server. You’ll see from this graph
(courtesy of grabPERF) just how hammered we were. I spent 6 hours on Monday night just trying to keep the main server above water. As you see from the graphs, we survived.
Not only did we survive that hit, I have now flipped the switches on the six biggest blogs, The Microsoft Weblog, the Windows Vista Blog, The Gadget Blog, the Blog Herald, Play-Girlz and Search Engine Herald, and they are serving from the new server. That should serve as a pressure valve and make things easier to deal with.

I guess the new server is down, none of those links work.
