Making Melodies

We’ve been having a little bit of fun in the back corners of b5media. Jonic recently asked the bloggers if anyone could sing and wanted to share. A number of people stepped up – Jonic being one of them – and recorded themselves singing.

I wish I could say I had the musical abilities I once had. My guitar playing has significantly deteriorated since I rarely play anymore but I laid down some tunes anyway. What If, by Coldplay, was one of the ones that sounded good enough (that is used loosely — ok, my voice is rough and my guitar won’t stay in tune, but other than that it’s great!) to share publically. :-) Okay, so I really sucked but I’m not ashamed!

Also said was If I Had $1,000,000 by the Barenaked Ladies, #41 by Dave Matthews , and I Need You, by Jars of Clay.

Others shared their own renditions of Green Eyes (Coldplay), Nobody Does it Better (Carly Simon) and one such blogger even wrote a song called "Birth of a Chicken", sung to the tune of Coca Cola commercial.

Besides trying to figure out what Eminem would sound like with a Yorkshire accent, we’re all about business!

Enjoy!

Before Jonic comes over here and spanks you hard, there should be a hyphen in the URL for Re Retro: http://re-retro.com :)

I’m currently working on the music video for Birth of a Chicken. I’ll be releasing it as a single soon to promote my upcoming CD: “Songs from the Soul: The Farm Animal in Me.”

All kidding aside, I really loved your Coldplay cover. It was my favorite :)

Oops… fixed that URL. I actually liked Jonic’s cover of Green Eyes the best but what do I know? :-) As for me, I tend to do well with Coldplay. It’s simple music. But I really sucked doing What If… think I may have to retry that one soon.

It was great fun playing for someone other than my friends at my local open mic night for a change… Maybe we should each do a song a week on the forum or something… Once my personal blog gets online properly (after the May 1st CSS Reboot) I think I might do something like that on there.

Have you seen http://songstowearpantsto.com/? It’s a great little site… Take a look! I’d eventually like to set up something like that myself one day…

If you’re feeling bad because you haven’t played in a while then don’t man… Get back up to speed and record us some more! I’m usually twice as good as the songs I uploaded, so I know how you feel! I need to restring my guitar too…

I’m totally going to cover Birth of a Chicken one of these days… Maybe get some harmonies going, a bit of theramin… The ‘Disc & Music Echo’ would be all over it!

Would that they were still a functioning publication!

    Ah, I don’t feel bad, Jonic. :-)

As a perfectionist, I’m peeved by the crappy recording conditions I have – a simple computer mic, crappy strings… I can get new strings and I’m going to but I wish I had a recording setup with a line in for my guitar and a decent mic. Also wish I had a band to get some of that other flavor in there. :-)

I think the next song I’m going to record is Boston by Augustana…
