I’ve been talking recently with several notable designers about the possibility of having a professional template created for this site. Though all were interested and several have provided quotes, I realized that even though this site is getting traffic in bucketloads right now, the income generated from it is negligible. Having a design created at a pricetag of over $1000 is not really economically feasible… at this point.
It is my desire to have one created by my May 20th 2 year anniversary - maybe even roll it out then. There are a number of things in the air right now that would put me in a significantly easier place to pay this kind of pricetag in the near future, but now is not the time.
That said, I still have some of the problems that I had when I first started approaching designers. Notably, I can’t effectively highlight all the content I want to highlight or tie it together. The space constraints that this template provides is frustrating. I chatted with another well known blogger last night who indicated that he too is wrestling with the whole idea of blog architecture right now - how does one really make a blog work in a way that makes sense and doesn’t focus too heavily on one feature over another. I suppose when a blog gains the size this one has, these sorts of things start getting worked and re-worked.
So, I’m going to be experimenting with some new ideas over the next few days. I have no idea if I’ll keep them and I’d be lying if I told you I knew that they made sense or worked. But I want to try them and see how things develop. Feedback welcome.
