Podcasting: Updates in the world of Podcasting

So much news has been said about podcasting and I am going to add to the fray in what I deem interesting the "Podosphere" (I know, I hate the term too).

Wordpress and Podcasting marry: Podcasting is a lot easier for us Wordpress users with PodPress. It is a really cool plugin for the Wordpress console. Since I have been working to get the Venture Files podcast ready to go. Check out what this can do:

  • Full featured and automatic iTunes feed generation
  • Auto-generation of enclosure tag
  • Makes adding a podcast to a post very simple
  • View MP3 files ID3 tags when you?re posting, and copy ID3 data to the post title and content.
  • Control over where the player will display within your post.
  • Support for various formats, including video podcasting
  • Automatic media player for MP3, MP4, MOV, FLV, and more, with inline and popup window support.
  • Preview of what your podcast will look like on iTunes
  • Easy way to link to your podcast within iTunes

I am going to get the plugin installed this week.

‘Rent’ the Musical is podcasting: Since the musical is so popular and the movie is out on DVD now, what more could be done? In an interesting approaches to podcasting, they are going to "provide a behind-the-scenes perspective from the creative and producing forces who guided the project from off-Broadway?s New York Theatre Workshop to Broadway. Original cast members, producers, staff, fans, and family members of the show?s creator, Jonathan Larson, will reminisce about the project." I think this is a neat use of podcasting to add value to something that has had so much done about it.

Podcasting is helping teachers dedicate more time to students: I recently completed a project in my EMBA program to do a viral marketing program to attract students to the EMBA program UMD does in China. We used video podcasting and blogs to create thought leadership and draw in leads. Many colleges are podcasting, but this school is using podcasts to help 8th graders review for exams and to supplement their education. Who would have thought podcasting would benefit the world in such a way? This is what school should be – interesting. If this kind of stuff was around when I was in grade school I might not have failed Algebra twice.
