Tens of Thousands in the Streets

What happens when a nation blindly turns it’s eye to a stream of people coming into the country with no authorization for decades? What happens when the thirst for cheap labor overcomes the need for rational thought and consideration to laws and processes?

The answer? Phoenix, Arizona and Los Angeles, California. Those two cities, among others, were the scenes of illegal Mexicans holding American society hostage. The fact that walking out of schools, jobs and congregating in major expressways was more than a nuisance, it actually crippled city functions is crazy.

I am fully supportive of the law passed in Congress that would clamp down on illegal immigration.

I don’t get comments like this from Malissa Greer in the AP:

“They’re here for the American Dream,” said Malissa Greer, 29, who joined a crowd estimated by police to be at least 10,000 strong. “God created all of us. He’s not a God of the United States, he’s a God of the world.”

What do people think there is a God-given right to be in America? I can’t simply go to Australia or India or Brazil simply on a whim. It is not my God-given right to do so. MY God-given right is as an American. Native-born Mexicans have a God-given right to be in Mexico. If they want to come to the United States, they don’t need a God given right… thjey need a United States Government given right. It’s called a Visa. Or a Green Card. Or full on naturalization. That right doesn’t come by sneaking across a border in the back of a truck or other such method.

Furthermore, they are not here for the American dream. They are here for the realization of their own dream in America.

They do not come here to become Americas, but to become a part of the growing Hispanic plurality — which will be a majority in cities like Houston in less than 15 years.

Already, they demand — and get — concessions. Local police will not enforce green card laws. Even the FBI had to come on television apologetically and emphasize that in their hunt for fugitive Mexican criminals they would not be looking for or arresting illegal aliens.

What happened to “equal protection under the law?”

My message to the government of Mexico is this: Deal with the corruption and wealth distribution issues that keep your society from prospering. Enforce your borders. If not, then prepare to become a territory of the the United States.

I love your last line there in your message to the Mexican Govt.

What I can say is every Mexican worker I’ve seen on the job was much harder working than the average American. They aren’t sitting on their asses… Even if they are using bogus SSC cards – the government sucks up their taxes and they see nothing obviously. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong — I pass them every day on the way to work standing on a street corner wanting a job. Far contrast from some fatass white trash mom with a “proud to be an American” sticker on her beat up car who pumps out another kid so she can collect more money off the government.

A.J., from a business owners perspective, you are a wet dream and I say that with all the love and kindness I can. :)

From a legal and security perspective your observations are totally pointless and off the mark.

I could care one iota if an illegal mexican worker busts his ass more so than a fat white trash woman with a “Proud to be American” bumper sticker on her beat up Pontiac 6000. (since we’re stereotyping here) HE’S STILL A FRICKEN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two wrongs don’t make a right! No matter which side you’re on.

    :D

Yes they are illegals…so? SECURE THE BORDER!! My point is that they are here working and contributing – the vast majority anyway.

We shouldn’t demonize the ones pouring over here illegally – because it’s our own fault. Sean Hannity is spewing stuff like they are violating the sanctity of this country or some bullcrap as if they are all criminals.

I’m am all for getting tough on illegal immigration, but those people just want a better life. Can you blame them? They are not the enemy.

A.J., what part of “illegal” do you not understand? I see it plainly, as black and white. Legal = right, ok, and illegal = wrong, immoral, unethical, outlaw.

Webster’s defines legal and illegal this way:

    le-gal
    adj.
1 of, created by, based upon, or authorized by law
2 in conformity with the positive rules of law; permitted by law “a legal act”
3 that can be enforced in a court of law !legal rights”
4 of or applicable to lawyers !legal ethics”
5 in terms of the law !a legal offense”

    il-le-gal
prohibited by law; against the law; unlawful; illicit; also, not authorized or sanctioned, as by rules
    n.
an alien who has entered a country illegally

To address your concerns: “Sean Hannity is spewing stuff like they are violating the sanctity of this country or some bullcrap as if they are all criminals.”

First of all, I don’t care what Sean Hannity says, get your own information. Secondly, they are all criminals. If you enter into this country illegally, YOU ARE A CRIMINAL. And thus, should be treated accordingly. If you break a law, any law, you are a criminal.

Secondly, you said: “I’m am all for getting tough on illegal immigration, but those people just want a better life. Can you blame them? They are not the enemy.”

Yes, I can blame them, yes, they are the enemy.

Why? if they want a better life, than they can affect change in their own country instead of fleeing it. I’ve argued countless times about their government’s situation, their plight, etc, and I have yet to find someone who can sway my information about it.

Secondly, illegal immigration is costing you and me. Not just money, I could care less if the government is living high off the taxes that their working pays them. Paying taxes in our country is NOT cause to forgive illegal activity.

Hell, you can avoid federal tax evasion charges as a drug dealer if you pay taxes on the money you make during the commission of a felony (dealing, importing, trafficking narcotics) that doesn’t make it legal. It just means you are paying the government so they can’t come after you for tax evasion.

Securing our borders is only 1 step to stemming to huge tidal wave of illegal immigration. You must ALSO DEPORT THOSE who are still in our country.

If they want to become citizens, then they MUST GO THROUGH THE SYSTEM just like everyone else who has come here LEGALLY.

    No exceptions.

I would agree. I’m constantly amazed at how liberals can have so many “grey” areas in lfe when there are no grey areas when it comes to right or wrong. It doesn’t make us conservatives insensitive or cruel or unfeeling because we don’t want illegals here. I know that most of them are good people, but good doesn’t mean they are legal. I know most of them are hard working, but hard working doesn’t earn passage to this country. I know most of them want better lives but who on earth doesn’t want a better life.

Illegal is illegal and though it’s a cruel world, a world of order is one with systems that are respected.

I agree with you guys… I’m not sympethetic to illegal immigrants, I just don’t blame them either. Because it’s our fault. Why should we be surprised at the mumber of illegals here? If a fraction of the time, money, and manpower that we spend in Iraq was spent on the border we could get something done about the problem.

This isn’t a liberal or conservative issue. If it was, something would have been done about it. For example, my own grandfather owns a huge paint & drywall company out of Phoenix. He’s a lifelong Republican and his company employs thousands. He admits that if he went thru and fired every single mexican that did not have, or was in the process of gaining citizenship – the company would probaby fall apart. He’s not the only one. That is a huge reason why this has been ignored for so long and why it’s the latest wedge issue in an election year – but notice how everyone shut up on Capitol Hill after a 500,000 strong protest in LA and others elsewhere. Immigration is not going to become what gay marriage was for the Republicans in 2004.

I think we should titghten security at our border, but like I said before, this problem is OUR PROBLEM. We let it happen and now we’re blaming the Mexicans because we have an open border.

No no…. I agree with that! It is our problem and we did let it happen. What frightens me is looking at exactly the same phenomenon in France where last year the immigrant population pushed Paris into two weeks of unrest.

I agree it’s our problem. Unfortunately, to make it right will mean a painful process but that process must be gone through. Things don’t get better from here.

It will be a long and painful process, that’s for sure. Because it’s been going on for so long, and suddenly people act as if they are surprised.

Deporting all illegals immediately sounds like an easy solution, but take one look at the crowd that converged on downtown L.A. over the weekend, which was rather hastily planned I might add. As you mentioned, Aaron, what happened in Paris could easily happen in L.A. and spread to other cities.

We can’t fix a problem that’s been going on for decades overnight.
