b5media Being Coy about Funding

Hmmmm. Though I’m a part of b5media in a large capacity, I am not privvy to any inside information here, but it seems that the b5 guys are beating around the funding bush quite a bit. A little Googlesque if you ask me. “A Google-based MS Office compeitor? Nah… we’re just partnering with Sun Microsystems, the maker of StarOffice, because we think Jonathon Schwartz is the sexiest geek alive.”

Duncan seems to be hinting:

Of course, in my absence away from the online world, Jeremy hinted that b5media is also exploring our options. There is nothing more I can (nor want) to add to what Jeremy has said, only what I said a in the last paragraph. A little bit of funding helps.

And Jeremy is doing the bait-and-switch himself:

Just to repeat, we haven’t announced anything. So I’m not going to talk about this to any degree in the public space. First, if you do a search of the Ensight archives you’ll find a wealth of info on my thoughts on the VC world. Those stand true today. In short, I look at VC as a partnership between the business and the funding partners (be they VC, angel, corporate or mentor capital – or a mixture of all 4). You share the risk. You share the reward. You look to build something important.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. It sure would be nice to get paid regularly for what I’ve been doing on the systems side. But this is the life of a startup and I’ve always believed in b5media which is why I do what I do. :-)

Hey, the mystery of my good friends at b5media aside, your new blog design looks great!

Thanks, Cary. :) I think it will suit my needs better. I guess at this point in my blog career, I’m looking for utility over flashiness… :-)
