Perhaps that is the most boring subject line, but it seems one of the biggest hitches to people getting into blogging is domains. For some reason, registering a domain name is a major monumental decision. It’s not, and looking past the fact that you can blog for free without buying a domain, there are some really cheap domain solutions out there.
Of course, buying a good domain name can take some thoughtfullness and a few minutes of research. Buying domains that are keyword rich (having keywords that directly pertain to the nature of the site) is important but many keyword rich domains have already been snarfed up. Most domain registrars have a “whois” form that allows potential customers to search for domains (and similar domains) to see if they are available. One of my sites (non blog) is named Effectively Tagging Your Blog and has a domain name of taggingyourblog.com. See? Effective use of keywords.
Once a domain is found, then it’s a matter of buying the thing and finding the cheapest price. Traditionalists will recommend Register.com but they charge $35 for a year - a price that was common and expected in the dot-com era but is overpriced at best now. Smart people recommend sub-$10 services like GoDaddy which offers domain registration for $8.95 per .com and lower for other top-level domains such as .org etc. Yahoo Small Business offers them for $2.95 (or did… Site seems to be down now).
So now when someone asks you How to Register a Domain Name, you can tell them just how easy it really is. :)

Registering your domain name isn't that hard. The hardest thing is to find a name that isn't taken by others and thats actually a big problem for a lot of people. Sometimes you will need to contact some persons to buy there domain name and then give you really high prices !
