BlogMedia Shakeup

BlogMedia, a blog network that is relatively new but so powerful having bought up key sites including Blog Herald is consolidating a little back. I like to put a positive spin on what appears to be a decimation of the core group. Dave Krug, Chris Pearson and Ben Bleikamp are leaving BlogMedia to launch a new consulting venture. I’ve chatted quite a bit recently with Dave and personally I think this is the right thing for him to do.

Back when I first mentioned that I was thinking of leaving my day job and looking for other work I expressed the sentiment that when you no longer enjoy what you are doing, it’s time to find something else to do. I won’t speak for Dave but I keenly felt that running a blog network was something of a “past tense” thing for him. I haven’t chatted with Chris or Ben at all.

Matt Craven is staying with BlogMedia. I’m unsure if there are other core members and if they are staying or leaving.

I will say that BlogMedia has been one of those networks that I have looked at and admired. They are very much like b5media is in that they have grown fast and furious but while b5 has grown in sheer numbers, BlogMedia has grown vertically with a core selection of blogs in very narrow niches. I’ve wondered if Technosailor had nichefied to be an exclusively blog-centered blog 6 months ago if there would have been a place for me in one of these networks. Still, I think there’s plenty of work for them to do and I wish BlogMEdia (and Dave’s new venture) all the success in the world.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am going to be working with Dave to move the sites that are leaving BlogMedia to their new servers.

We all have different passions – I think the move that we made was the best for all of us.

I look forward to working with you on the server move when the time comes.
