Weekend DVD Round Up

My wife and I re-subscribed to Netflix late last week and filled our queue with a bunch of movies and Season 1 of Lost. We like catching up with TV series we haven’t watched before. It’s how we got hooked on 24 and got up to speed in time for Season 3 a few years ago.

So here’s the recap of our weekend viewing:

Lost Season 1: Episodes 1-4
Okay, I can see why people are addicted to this show. Lot’s of suspense, thrillerdom and spookiness. After reading the ongoing commentary about the Numbers Stations over at Homeland Stupidity (I summarized all the posts at The Not So Free State), I had to watch Lost to find out about the coded messages from the French Woman recording that had been playing non-stop for 16 years. Rememeber, we’re only on Episode 4. Don’t ruin it for me.

Sahara
An interesting story, if a bit far-fetched, about how a Confederate ironclad battleship, the C.S.S. Texas somehow navigated te Atlantic, ended up up the Niger river in Saharan Africa, somehow ran aground in a riverbed that 150 years later is now dry, and got covered in Saharan sand dunes in the middle of Mali. Yeah, ummm, believable. :)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
We don’t often go to the theatre to see movies, so catching them on DVD is how we stay up on films. This was an enjoyable movie, a bit comedic, and where Brangelina got their off-camera start together. Enjoyable as well.

So what other movies/shows should we rent?

Saw Memoirs of a Geisha, Brokeback Mountain and Just Friends in the past week or two.

All worth watching, preferred the book of “Memoirs…” though.

Alan: I liked “Memoirs” in book form, too. I haven’t seen the movie — where do you think the movie went wrong, and where did they capture the spirit of the book? I probably won’t see the movie for a long time, so don’t worry about any spoilers.
