9rules - b5media Podcast

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

As a result of a near-war between the blog networks as documented here, here, here, here and here, Jeremy Wright of b5 and Tyme White of 9rules got together and did a very good podcast. It is a very long podcast (2 hours I think!).

Now I realize my name has become in many ways synonomous with b5media, but in this entry and on this blog, I am neither b5media, nor do I represent b5media. So I’ll offer my honest evaluation as I see it:

Jeremy Wright offered some excellent perspective on the internal happenings of b5media. His point was that we simply have a different model that focuses on the blogger and the natural evolution of a blogger to have to go wide and find their niche in whichever blog network works for them before going deep with a single network. I think Jeremy talked more than he listened and I might have been put off by that but he was talking to Tyme and she didn’t seem bothered by it.

Tyme White is one of the most genuine, coolest people I’ve heard on a podcast. I’ve had very little interaction with Tyme outside of yesterday’s shitstorm, but I totally respect everything about her and her openness to other ideas and her willingness to express her own perspective. I love this woman.

Personally, I can’t stand Scrivs. Still can’t. Even more so now. I don’t appreciate how despite claiming that his post was not an attack on one of b5’s bloggers, Colbert Low, he assassinated Colbert’s character. He essentially accused Colbert, a proper and upstanding young man who I DO work with at b5, of underhandedly spreading network secrets:

Colbert: one more thing. I don’t reveal my employers secrets. That’s why I have contracts signed to prevent this from happening.

Scrivs: As noble as it is for you to say that nobody ever really knows what happens behind closed doors.

I’d recommend that he grow up and take people at their word before he starts slinging mud.

      Aaron,

I think the rival blog networks should have a "dance off". Sort of like the Jets and Sharks in West Side Story. :)
