WordCamp 2006 Agenda

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

The countdown is on to WordCamp. I’ve got four days before I leave for the Bay Area and more information is finally coming out. Officially, it’s been announced that the event is being held at the Swedish American Hall which looks to be an interesting mesh of conference center and rustic lodge. I’ve made my hotel reservations and will be staying near Union Square at a Hotel that caught my attention based on its name - the Hotel Diva. Initially I laughed. Then I made my reservation.

WordCamp itself is going to be a blast. I’m planning on attending a series of sessions that, I think, will assist me in meeting the demands of a growing blog network, as well as challenge my understanding of the WordPress platform.

  • Blog Promotion 101 — Tagging, pinging, better writing, etc.
  • Monetizing Your Blog — Ideas, tips, and practical ways to generate income on your blog
  • High Performance WordPress — Scaling WP for high traffic sites
  • Blog Architecture — New and creative ways of presenting content for readers exploration and increased pageviews/times of visit. I’m still hoping to lead this session, but no word yet.
  • Pimp my blog — Take someone’s rather plain Wordpress site and outfit it with a funky new design.
  • SEO for WordPress — How to optimize your blog for the search engines.
  • WordPress Consulting — Best practices for making money doing consulting and development around WordPress.
  • Blog Ad Revenue — Tips for finding relevant ads and placing them on your blog for optimal performance.
  • Wordpress Security — Protecting against SPAM and malicious attacks
  • WordPress for Blog Networks — Examining different techniques for optimizing Wordpress as a publishing platform for blog networks (standard or MU)
  • Roadmap developer discussion — For developers to brainstorm on the development roadmap.
  • What to do about blog aggregators and scrapers — (when you don’t want them to do that)
  • Structured Blogging — Modifying the main render loop for rendering microformats and ’structured’ blog entries based on post metadata
  • Enterprise WordPress — Discussing large-scale, community driven WP sites - the issues, optimization tips, community building

Of course, I might not be able to attend all of these sessions based on time constraints or scheduling overlaps. But, I’m going to do my best. You’ll be able to follow my live blogging of the event at Blog Herald.

That sounds like a ton of fun and I am envious of your trip. If you get information about next year's events or something can you post it?

I never know about these things until they are happening or have happened.

Scheduling time in advance to next year's conference would so wonders for my technical proficiency. Ya know? LOL

        Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
