Our society seems to be obsessed with dark stories. The latest CNN.com news stories seem to tell the story:

Yes lets NOT be obsessed with the dark fears of the world, cancleing an opera because we are AFRAID of the muslims. WTF is that all about? This Muslim thing, religon, scaredy cat crap has got to stop, this is absolutely ridiculous. Hopefully when bush leaves office we can get back on the right path.

Reminds me a post I wrote once when I was feeling depressed about living in the heart of bird flu country (Vietnam). I listed all the different ways people had died based on a scan of Google news. After that, I felt much better. Maybe I’m just horribly morbid.

It’s gotten to the point where I don’t watch the local news, and I don’t read the paper except the Sunday NY Times. I just can’t bear to read one more story on this made-up war, detainees, illegal aliens, or violent crime. Strangely enough, I’ve been a lot happier since my moratorium on the news, too.

I believe Don Henley had a lot to say about this subject in “Dirty Laundry”.

The media also likes to scare people. I mention, the bird flu, terrorism and so forth what may or may not happen. The bird flu never really got off the ground.

Brandt, there’s still time…. Not that I’ll stop sleeping with my pet chicken. ;)
