Sunday, I’m leaving for NYC to join Jeremy and Mark at Ad Tech NYC 2006. I went to NY last year with Jeremy and he attended the conference, but I did not. This year is different.
At b5media, one of our main sources of revenue is advertising and Ad Tech features all the companies demoing their latest and greatest ad techniques and marketing tricks. I’m attending as a member of the press, so there will be coverage of the event here, however the alterior motive has to do with grasping the world of advertising and marketing as part of my job.
Having said that, I’m looking for the Ad Tech parties at night. It’s the best way to meet people outside of the environment where they are pushing their latest products. When I went to WordCamp, the best times for me were the pre- and after-parties. It’s where ideas are really exchanged, networking really takes place and people are most relaxed. My kind of atmosphere.
By and large, I’m a conference rookie. Aside from WordCamp, I haven’t typically gone for assorted reasons. I even missed the DC PHP conference. So I go to these things with unformulated expectations. I think I prefer more intimate environments with a handful of people, but I’m not opposed to the big events.
Anyone in NY for these days have ideas?
