Blackberry Assistance Needed?

Posted by: Aaron Brazell
Woodlawn, MD, USA

I have a new Blackberry that I rely on in my new found ever-mobile role. Blackberrys are not new for me. I supported them regularly at my last job. But at my last job, they were locked into Blackberry Enterprise Servers, Exchange and ever-vigilant spam killing. Now, I have both my Gmail and b5media emails mapped into the Blackberry and get all my mail wirelessly.

I mean, ALL my mail. Including the spam I usually don’t see because Gmail and Thunderbird screen it (or now, Entourage Junk Mail options).

So any Blackberry wizards out there have any tricks about killing spam before it gets to my Blackberry?

My suggestion would be to have all your email forward a copy to an online email service that has a good SPAM detection suite and then use your Blackberry to connect to that service and check email. It has its drawbacks, but works pretty well at eliminating spam. The only problem is messages you've already read on your PC will still download to your blackberry when you connect.

I personally have all my mail go through my own server and I have SpamAssassin configured. It's not the best spam filter, but it does get most of the bad spam, and when it downloads into my Mail.app I get the rest with junk mail filters.

        Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
