Review of Feedburner

November 29, 2006

WELCOME! to Techmeme Readers! Enjoy yourself and stay awhile.
Several months ago, b5media made the choice to move all our feeds to Feedburner. We had actually been looking to do this for awhile, but there were a couple things holding us back. Portable feeds and money. Both of those things were resolved around the middle to [...]

Firestoker at DemoCamp 11 – Addressing My Critics

November 24, 2006

In Toronto, I had the opportunity to go to DemoCamp, which was an event that provided 5 products “airtime” to the greater Toronto area tech community. Each presenter had the chance to demonstrate their products (a few broke the no-Powerpoint rule) and by in large, I wasn’t overly impressed.
There was one product, Firestoker which aims [...]

Happy Holidays

November 24, 2006

I didn’t bother writing a holiday post yesterday. I was too busy trying to get to New Jersey to spend the day with my parents. It was a good day filled with normal Thanksgiving Day stuff – lots of food, football, etc.
I made the mistake of stopping at CompUSA on the way home though. Every [...]

Mac Tip Series: The say command

November 19, 2006

Because OS X is built on top of Unix, many of the really powerful things that can be done are done from the command line. And because I have a background in the defense industry, let me qualify this tip by saying that usually information that the government classifies is not deadly information in itself. [...]

Mac Tip Series: Photo Enhancement

November 18, 2006

For those who don’t want to pay $650 for Photoshop to do basic photo editing, OS X comes with iPhoto. iPhoto is a tremendous little program for photo editing. It doesn’t offer all the filters and tools that Photoshop, or even The Gimp, does but it’s easy to use and has a one click Enhancement [...]

Mac Tip Series: Parallels Internet Access at Paid Access Points

November 18, 2006

One of the dirty little secrets (not really a secret since it makes sense if you think about it) is that Starbucks and other paid wireless access points only provide a single IP address. You pay for internet access, they give you an IP address. No problem in most situations, but what if you’re using [...]

Post-Techcrunch Evaluation: or why Mike Arrington should stay in Palo Alto

November 17, 2006

Last night was Techcrunch at BED NY in Chelsea. Where they found this place was beyond me. To start the evening off, it was pouring rain and guests were left outside to wait for the cargo elevator which goes to the club on the 6th floor. It was a mobscene.
I got in though and was [...]
