It’s Election Day in America and if you’re an American citizen of voting age, you need to go vote. This is a very important election on many fronts and you have no right to be disgruntled by the outcome if you don’t exercise your right and perform your duty.
I’m in NYC and so I can’t vote in person, but I did vote absentee.

I’d love to, but frankly, I know of no one here worth voting for.

So write yourself in. I expect you to take your blog down if you don’t vote.

I missed the voter registration cutoff by a day :(
But the elections went the way I thought they would anyway. Except for Katherine Harris getting 38% of the vote, I have no idea that many people didn’t think of her as completely insane.

If you choose to not vote, you don’t get the luxury of complaining about who won. :p

You both must be joking. And it’s a pretty sick joke.
My blog isn’t going anywhere, and my complaints, if anything, will get even louder.

While I won’t presume to speak for Aaron, I can say that no — I wasn’t kidding.
The thing that Americans tend to conveniently forget is that along with each and every right we’re granted — we’re also burdened with a large responibility. We all like to talk about our “rights” but we ignore our responsibilities — to each other and to our country. Voting is a major responsibility we have as citizens of this country.

I’ll vote when there’s someone worth voting for. I absolutely refuse to vote for the “lesser of two evils.”
My further comments on this election are now available.

Oh, almost forgot to mention. This is what we had to deal with here yesterday:
Polling place closed by bomb threat
Someone, who the police can never seem to catch, has spent the last couple of years leaving the occasional bomb around town. This person is apparently completely incompetent, though, because his bombs never actually go off. But one of these days, he might actually get it right…

Good grief – what a loser. Sorry you had to put up with something like that.
There were a bunch of city residents here in Baltimore who didn’t receive their absentee ballots…including one of my neighbours. Thankfully she wasn’t really absent, and she was still able to vote.
The older I get, the less I *enjoy* voting. But I still do it. I might, however, think twice if we had a lunatic bomber running around. I’m not *that* damn responsible.

Bombers or no bombers, I still maintain that it’s irresponsible to vote if there’s no one on the ballot worth voting for.
Give me “None of the above, these people are all worthless” and I’ll vote for that almost every time! :)

I would love to be able to vote for “NONE OF THE ABOVE”. That’s who I would have voted for in the last presidential election. And if the republicans don’t manage to get Bill Frist on the ticket, that’s who I’ll write in. Maybe George Pataki.
Next presidential election should prove to be interesting…but right now I’m concentrating on getting rid of Sheila Dixon as mayor, even before she sets foot in the mayor’s office.
I was never a very political person until now. LOL.

Geez… I sit in an airport for a few hours and the whole place goes to hell. :)
I’m honestly only really disappointed by one State race. Nothing else about the results truly bother me. Divided government is good.

Yeah, now approve my other comment that your precious Akismet marked as spam. :P
As for me, I’d rather have limited government than divided government. You know, the way the Constitution said it was supposed to be, but hasn’t actually been in a looong time.

Well anything linking to your site is spam. Akismet has learned that. :D
I agree with you about limited government but regardless, it’s ummm, not going to happen.

Hanging out in airports again, Aaron?
:: snicker ::
Nothing went to hell. Michael and I were having a lovely exchange, even if he is a bit stubborn.

You don’t know Michael like I know Michael (as disgusting as that sounds). You’ve seen nothing. Go hang out in the #wordpress IRC channel for a few hours. :-)

My dear, what you and Michael do…ahem…in your “off hours” well, that’s none of my business.
You know you SO left the door open for that one. And cheap opportunist that I am, well, I couldn’t resist.
Speaking of Wordpress…hmm…

Oh yeah, I’m just horribly stubborn for insisting the federal government stay inside the boundaries that were drawn for it, something it hasn’t done in many decades. Instead, it’s quietly moved the boundary lines outward, through unconstitutional laws and tortured Supreme Court decisions to prop them up, to encompass more and more of our lives.
You’ll have to pardon me for not throwing my wholehearted support toward this march off the cliff toward tyranny.

“March off the cliff toward tyranny”
I love that and plan to use it in conversation sometime tomorrow. In a completely inappropriate place, like the supermarket.

Michael – at least go on election day and turn in a blank ballot. That will make the difference between an apathetic “no-show” and an informed “none of the above” vote. And if your polling place is threatened by a mad bomber, do it absentee. It is important to be counted, even if you are counted as unhappy with all of the presented choices.
Carol- I have one of those phrases, too, that I lifted form somewhere and use at totally inappropriate times and places: “I am an agent of the apocalypse”. :-)
