Post Ad-Tech, Post-Election post (or How Many Times can Post be used in a Subject?)

I’m sitting here in Laguardia airport waiting for my flight. It’s pouring outside. I’m already through security. The status of my flight is still questionable. What better to do than reflect a little bit.

First, New York. It’s been a very productive trip for the company but for me I’m not sure what I gained. I made some good contacts, spent some time with the LogicWorks folks (the people who host our cluster), met with Brent from Feedburner, scoped out some stats packages, listened to some boring panels, etc. It’s just not my scene.

Next week I’ll be back here in NYC for Techcrunch and that’s more my scene. Tech companies doing the stuff, mostly without a business plan likely, but doing cool stuff nonetheless. Meeting webbies is much more fun than meeting marketing types trying to push their latest money making gimmick down your throat. Much more my thing. Drop me a line if you want to hang out a bit Thursday or Friday of next week.

Of course, the trip to NY spanned election day and fellow conservatives might wonder why I’m not disappointed by the outcome. Divided government is a good thing. At the risk of sounding cynical (okay, I am!) divided government means nothing gets done in Washington. And that’s a good thing.

It forced Donald Rumsfeld, the master of “shit rolls down hill” as opposed to “the buck stops here”, to step down. This is a good thing. We need responsible people. To quote Borat, “We support your war of terror.”

Well we don’t and if there’s a mandate to the new majority, it is to do what you have to do to end this war of terror and get back to a real war on terror.

I am very disappointed by the Maryland governor’s race. Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley scares me. Big time. And he could be the Presidential nominee in 2008. Which is also scary considering the guy claims to have improved crime and education in Baltimore City and the numbers and evidence are exactly opposite.

Oh well. Time to get back to my airport food.

The time when the president had a free lunch is over. That’s a good thing, like you said.

Is there free Wi-Fi connections throughout LaGuardia?

Not too bad. But still quite pricey.

Our local airport is now offering free wifi throughout the terminals.

It doesn’t have the same traffic as NY though. Still, it’s a pretty cool thing.

There’s a couple of projects around the city to have free wi-fi “hot spots”. Nice initiative.

I hope the wait is not too boring. ;)

    Have a nice flight.

As a mother and a taxpayer, I want to see all of those children sent back HOME, and out of Iraq.

Maybe now my opinion will mean something besides I’m a terrorist in the making because I disagree with the current regime.

I can’t stand the thought of one more mother losing her child to a war that should have never been.

Carol: the thing though is that the U.S. is responsible for the Iraq mess, so it’s its duty to fullfil its committment. Leaving Iraq the “vietnam way” is not the solution as a regime of warlords, such as what exists in Afghanistan and much of Africa would arise. And that would be very unfortunate.

This part of the world has been a mess for decades, if not centuries. Yes, it would be unfortunate if it was left as is. On the other hand, the selfish part of me just wants our kids to come home and let the Iraqis fight their own battles.

“…the guy claims to have improved crime and education…”

Maybe it is a matter of difference in the way you define the terms. :-)

    Good thoughts.

Carol: I guess we’re both terrorists.

    Sean: True dat, yo.

Great. One more thing to add to my increasingly-bizarre CV.

At least if 50% of the US population is not happy with the election results, you can rest assured than a much higher figure of people are relieved throughout the whole world.
Thanks for establishing some kind of watchdog. Even if it’s almost 5 years too late. ;)
