Serendipity Importer for WordPress Released

Posted by: Aaron Brazell

update : There is a new version available. The current original download is no longer available (delinked here).

I’ve had a few requests trickling in over the past several days since I announced I had gotten an importer together for Serendipity (s9y). So I’m releasing it with the warning that it has not been fully vetted and that there may be problems. I’ll do my best to support users with problems, but I can’t guarantee anything.

If it vets out well, I’ll submit it for inclusion in the WordPress core.

As with all importers, upload the extracted serendipity.php file to wp-admin/import/. The Import tab in the wp-admin should now provide a Serendipity importer. This is not a plugin. No activation is required and, indeed, you won’t find anything to activate on your plugin page.

You will also need to know the database credentials of your current serendipity blog. If it’s the same as your WordPress blog, then you’re in an even better position. :-)

Lemme know how it goes.

  • Serendipty Importer in .zip format
  • Serendipity Importer in .tar.gz format

Update: Seems I uploaded it to the wrong server - a problem that I encountered a few times in the days of switching servers when this importer was released. I’ve reuploaded the file.

  • Add to Mixx!
  • Stumble it!

        Twitter Pitch!

Twitter pitching is a form of pitch that requires succint "what does this mean for me" kind of pitching. It is the ultimate efficiency of words. You have 140 characters or less to tell me why your pitch matters to me or my readers. Please include a means of contacting you. This is included in your 140 characters. If you send successive pitches, you will likely be ignored, unless it's obvious that the first pitch was a case of "accidental send", etc.

This form of pitching does not mean I'm being a diva. It means that my time is valuable, and you want a piece of it. It's good practice for you, and delivers your pitch in a format I want. Win-win.
