NYC, Drinking Coffee in a Starbucks at 1:20am

So I decided to come to NY a day earlier than originally planned. Long story there, but it probably wasn’t the smartest of moves. Turns out I can’t find a hotel with a vacancy that is reasonable.

So, I’m pulling an all nighter (thank God for 24 hour Starbucks in this city) and have no idea how I’ll function tomorrow. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to catch a few winks through the night, but not likely.

I’m going to be burnt out.

Best of luck man…I KNOW how much that sucks! I did a job interview one time after driving all night from New Orleans to Atlanta. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job.

New reader. Fresh meet. Checking out your blog, it looks like you’re a Jerald Sheets connection.

Welcome and pass me some coffee.

It’s situations like this that they make credit cards for.

But I feel your pain. I only went to NYC once and nobody picked me up at the airport so I had to travel around at night alone waiting for the buses to start in the morning. Definetely not cool.

I really want to hear the long story. Why did you go to NYC a day early with no hotel reservation???

You should have let me know in advance, and I would have wandered down there and kept you up all night with tales of stupid people. :)

Of course, at one of many other Starbucks locations throughout the city. I’ve since arrived safely back home…

I am sure the worst 24hrs I have ever spent was at the airport in Chicago, all caused by some checking out delays for a hire car in Vegas.

I frequently spend 7hrs+ at the Starbucks at Heathrow airport, waiting to be able to check-in at 5:30am after catching one of the last trains in the night before.

I was just cruising around ;)

I love the “current” “conversation” “best” navigation, though not quite sure how it works with the search engines.

One thing I am missing is a way to dig deeper into your old posts. I am sure you have some interesting stuff hidden in there, but not quite sure how to find it.

Search is great if you already know what you are looking for.

One thing I noticed the other day, as you have been working with import.
Import from blogger seems to pickup the wrong post slugs if you changed the title of a post after it was created. Not sure if that would affect your script.

I didn’t actually write the Blogger importer. In fact, I’ve only ever built 3 – 2 public, one not. The Serendipity, the Textpattern that is in the core, and a Nucleus importer which I never publically released.

It was just something to watch out for.

I still have to check 90 odd posts I imported over from my old blogspot, and change post slugs if posts are not redirecting correctly.

How are you getting Blogspot blogs to redirect at all? Just curious…

A template with a meta refresh in it?

On an unrelated note, who’s Andy Beard? :)

I used the code from here

    http://underscorebleach.net/jotsheet/2006/05/mo...

Works a lot better than just a meta refresh, because if the post slugs work out, people end up at the right post on the new site.

Michael, I am just a blogger, but tend to use Wordpress for more CMS type stuff than blogging.

I also have some programmers working on a few plugins, but most of them are not really for bloggers.

Ah. I never read wp-hackers; it’s too noisy and I already get far too much mail.

I only receive a digest and if there is something worth commenting on then I use Nabble.

I am probably a little too commercial orientated for most of the Wordpress crowd.
