Well, in Washington, it’s never about the “right” idea, it’s about the loudest, best funded, most ardently followed to a fault, semi plausible and usually terrible idea that gets all the attention.

You’re right on the money with this post. Substance has been put aside to “style” unfortunately.

It doesn’t mean we should drop the substantive matter, and promote BS, but it means we have promote our substance much louder, if we’re to standout …from the rest of the BS.

And oh yeah, try to get published.

I am all in favor of giving away content to brand yourself as an industry expert. I’ve been living in the world of professional associations for many years, and I always encourage both associations and vendors in that space to become the industry experts and to objectively share information with potential clients. Excellent points. Thanks for writing the summary so succinctly.

Great post Aaron. Was just explaining to lawyers on a listserv that blogging is not just about posting content. Effective blogging is about entering into a discussion so as to get recognized as an expert and, like you say, get people talking about you.
