I've been thinking a lot about AOL the last week or so - what with all the buzz about the Facebook and Microsoft deal.

I've been using AOL for a long time - since at least 1994. First it was for dial-up and e-mail, then IM, chat, web presence, etc. I remember a time when they used to be "it".

They went out and bought Time Warner and to most of the world - including me - it signaled that the Internet had finally grown up.

Now all of that is behind us. And the new "it" companies seem to come and go faster than we can keep up. Two years ago it was MySpace, now its FaceBook (even though MySpace has more members).

In 3 or 4 years when Mark Zuckerberg is giving the KeyNote - you can repost this and just change out the names.
