RE: privacy issues. Interesting that people would worry about privacy now. MySpace, FaceBook, etc have shown that some people will throw their privacy away at a whim. And it’s not like that is a new thing either, as there were plenty who would share “private” information with complete strangers even before the internet existed.

in any case, these apps are a great way to keep friends abreast of one’s doings without having to mass email, or spend countless hours on the phone.

in closing, the math of comments shows that there should be one more invite left. if so, it would be much appreciated

I don’t think your comment about Rails is accurate. There are plenty of examples of large Rails apps that scale well. YellowPages.com, BaseCamp, Fluxiom — all have high data demands and all are highly reliable. Twitter was poorly architected, and they’ve admitted as much.

I too have been using BrightKite for a few weeks and I already really love it. Their new iPhone app makes using it much easier but I am still waiting for more functionality like adding friends. I have been a huge twitter fan so when this added photos and location I was very excited!
