Aaron,

Disqus is a great product and I am sure they will sort out the issues they are having soon.

As I mentioned in my Twitter - We are providing open source comments templates (under GPL) now...With these templates you can keep the comments in your own system and get the threading and social features (if you enable SezWho also) without giving up your comments.

Take a look and let me know what you think

Thanks, Jitendra

Appreciated, Aaron. As I mentioned over Twitter, I agree with a lot of this. We'll definitely be reviewing this closely.

I'm surprised on the theme integration side. You were using the API plugin, not the JS one? I got Disqus integrated fairly nicely, sure, maybe it's hard to get 100% integration, but it worked for me.

Comment panel isn't an issue for me, mostly because I hit Disqus directly so I can manage comments on more than one blog.

Spam I'm not going to disagree with you on, there's been a bit more lately, but this was an issue when they were using Akismet as well.
