Yes, Dean, only a fool would buy an Apple.

Some folks appreciate quality, reliability, and performance. And they're willing to pay for it. Count me in with that crowd and proud of it.

Yes, certainly I would also like to switch to Mac. But the dependency is so much that it is just impossible over here. You don't get much support or maintenance. Same goes for the spare parts. It is just the city areas where in few places these are provided. But a little out the city and you get nothing.

So, we have to have a PC rather than a Mac.

Trackpad gestures are solid gold for me with the new MacBooks! Two finger scroll and the ability to switch between running apps by dragging four fingers sideways on the trackpad... I could handle working without these features.

Aaron, I tend to use AppZapper to take applications off my mac and make sure all of the system files are removed as well. While there isn't an installer with Mac, it does tend to leave some system files behind if you just delete the application itself.

AppZapper is super easy, just drag the folder to a window and it pulls up a list of files related to that application. If there are notes or folders that you *do* want to save in the list, you simply uncheck them.

I couldn't recommend it more for making sure stuff really gets off your hard drive. Check it out: http://www.appzapper.com/

Melissa- I suggest maxing out your memory (but you don't have to) then running Parallels or VMWare Fusion to run Windows transparently on your Mac alongside your normal apps. It's actually a seamless integration and with enough memory, you wouldn't know the difference. Both cost about $79 plus your Windows XP or Vista license but is worth it. I do that and recommend VMWare myself.

I recently moved to a MAC and really appreciate your tips. I have been unsure about my move given the many sites and databases which require you to use IE, any tips or workarounds on that topic? I have noticed that Cision for one won't let me use Firefox or Safari and so I am still having to rely on my PC for certain sites and would love to just dump the PC altogether.

Thanks again for the insights!

I have been thinking about making the switch...but the mouse explanation above settled it....I'm a PC! One finger instead of four. However, great post! :)

Whoops - missed your recommendation re: apps in the post, but I hope mine adds a little more instruction. Also, deleting apps by just dragging them to the trash can leave extra files in your library directory and elsewhere (like the file that tells OS X that you already had that Trial Version of the applications installed). You can fully delete a file by using a program like appDelete (and better if you can find version 1.1.1 as the latest version will ask you to pay after about 5 application deletions).

One problem a lot of people have when they make the switch is when they want to install an application, while some Mac Applications will come with an installer, most involve double clicking them to load an image of the application and then dragging the application to the Applications directory in the Finder.

A lot of users who make the switch from PC to Mac will just open the .dmg disk image file and then double click the program. This will run the program, but won't save any of your settings because the image isn't writable.
